Thelma Sigurhansdottir, also known as Thelma Gella, is an Icelandic painter based in New York. Her work explores surreal and psychological spaces, often depicting fragmented bodies and gestures that blur the boundaries between interior experience and external perception.

She spent a year in Denmark pursuing studio work and exhibiting before relocating to New York in 2022 to earn her Bachelor of Fine Arts at the City College of New York. Her work has been exhibited throughout New York City, including on the Lower East Side, in Chelsea, Staten Island, the Upper East Side, and Harlem, as well as internationally in Iceland and Denmark. In 2026, she is participating in the Studio Winter Residency at Bushwick Gallery in Brooklyn.

Alongside her studio practice, she has worked in sculptural fabrication for one of New York’s leading contemporary artists and completed public mural commissions in Iceland. She currently lives and works in Brooklyn, where she is developing a new painting series further examining the body and perception within contemporary visual culture.
